What existed before the Big Bang?

Remember that thought you have sometimes – the one that goes:

People often ask questions like . . .
If there was a Big Bang, then what was there before the Big Bang?

If time began at the Big Bang, was there no time before that and . . . what does that mean?

If the Big Bang really happened, what made it happen?

Why on earth am I here?

These are some of the big questions of life! And, there are loads of debates and arguments around some of the suggested answers to these questions, but . . .

. . . the bottom line is . . .

no one can be sure they’re right because . . . well, we simply don’t have the scientific evidence to support a scientific answer to any of these questions!

Does Science say anything about the Big Questions?

Many scientists think that their experiences as scientists might be able to shed light on these big questions, and there are a range of viewpoints out there – with some scientists dismissing the idea that God exists while others believe that He does.

Now, the thing to do is . . . look carefully at these viewspoints, recognise that they are just that – viewpoints – and decide which makes best sense to you.

Here’s what one scientist, Dr Ard Louis, has said: “I wish science could easily provide an answer to these questions, but in my view, it cannot. But that doesn’t mean it is impossible to arrive at a well thought out worldview . . . go back and study some more and make up your own mind!”

What’s next?

On the next page, we move to what is generally seen as an even more controversial area – the apparent conflict between Creation and Evolution
