SRSP 7-11 Unit 1 Our World
This unit asks the question, ‘How do we know?’
It is concerned with ways in which we perceive the world around us and questions whether everything is as it seems. It considers whether we can rely on sense-data and common sense, and uses Abbott’s ‘Flatland’ concepts to develop ideas about reality.
The question of perception is fundamental to examining a religious and scientific approach to the world.
This unit consists of four lessons and is suitable for pupils aged from 9-11 years.

- Is science “common sense?”
- Is what we see of the world all there is?
- What do we know about the world?
